Nordic Skiing

If you prefer to stay on flat ground, try Nordic skiing in Lake Tahoe. Northstar, the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area, and Royal Gorge Ski Resort all have trail systems for cross country skiers. Royal Gorge Ski Resort is the country’s largest cross country resort with six trail systems, 65 trails, and more than 120 miles of skiable terrain.

Sledding

Sledding and ice tubing is the perfect family activity! Go snow tubing at Northstar California, which has two spots on the mountain to go tubing: Village Hike and Tube, and Mid-Mountain Tubing underneath Arrow Express.

Snowmobiling

Truckee is home to three different trail systems for snowmobiling: Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling, Eagle Ridge Snowmobiling, and Coldstream Adventures. Get a whole new view of the Lake Tahoe region and the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are tour companies that offer family-friendly outings throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and Tahoe National Forest.

Sleigh Rides

Go back in time with a sleigh ride through the mountain terrain in Lake Tahoe. Borges Sleigh & Carriage Rides has two locations in the area and has been offering horse-drawn rides since 1969. The season goes from November to March and all rides are weather dependant.
